About B. Henderson Johnson, Jr.

B. Henderson Johnson Jr. is of counsel with Aiken firm of Johnson Johnson Whittle and
Snelgrove. Born and reared in Aiken, Mr. Johnson enlisted in the Marine Corps after
graduating from high school. Following his military service, he obtained a Bachelor of
Science degree from Newberry College and worked eight years with the U.S. Postal Service. He married Doris Cunningham, and they had four children: Barry, Brad, Todd and Vicki.
He earned his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1963.
In 1980, he founded what is now Johnson, Johnson, Whittle and Snelgrove, Attorneys, P.A.
Mr. Johnson’s career accolades are many including being named a member of Order of the Wig
and Robe; his inclusion in the Best Lawyers in America; and being honored with the DuRant Award.
In Aiken, Mr. Johnson is the only person to have been named both Citizen of the Year (in 1969) and Man of the Year (in 1998) by the Aiken Chamber. He also received a Distinguished Citizen Award from USC Aiken in 2005 as well as the Order of the Palmetto. He is known for his selfless work with the Hitchcock Rehabilitation Center, the USC Aiken Partnership Board and the American Cancer Society.
And then there's baseball ....
Mr. Johnson spent tireless hours working with youth. He served as a coach, umpire and “jack-of-all-trades” for the Aiken Pony League. Known as the man who would do “anything and everything that needed to be done to give children an opportunity to participate in sports,” Mr. Johnson was twice awarded a World Series Sportsmanship Award and was also inducted into the Aiken County Sports Hall of Fame. All four of his children attended Aiken High School where his sons were active in the AHS Baseball program. We are grateful to the Aiken County School Board for the opportunity to honor Coach Johnson with Henderson Johnson Field of Aiken High School.

Aiken High School Baseball will be inaugurating its new field in honor of B. Henderson Johnson, Jr. during the Spring of 2010. Please join us in creating an impressive facility for our community and families.
A banquet is being planned for February 12, 2010, at Newberry Hall to honor administrators, coaches, players and community supporters of Aiken High School with a plan for the greatest improvement of the decade to AHS --- the Henderson Johnson Baseball Field.
